Mitsubishi Electric Power Products specializes in power systems consulting for distributed energy resources (DERs) impact/interconnection studies. A comprehensive DER impact study provides an understanding of the key issues and develops effective mitigation strategies.
With high penetrations of DERs, there are impacts on both transmission and distribution systems. The distribution system may experience equipment overloads, temporary and/or steady-state overvoltages, reduced power quality, mis-operation/overuse of voltage regulating devices, and mis-operation of protection schemes, such as for fuses and relays. At the Bulk Energy System level, concerns for DERs are increases in operation costs, ramping generation, growing need for storage, scheduling generation, and unit commitment.
MEPPI recently completed an impact study for a utility customer where the increased penetration of DERs in the distribution system created a potential concern for temporary overvoltages. Learn more by downloading the case study.
